Oral Pathology

The inside of the mouth is normally lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and coral pink in color. Any alteration in this appearance could be a warning sign for a pathological process. The most serious of these is oral cancer. The following can be signs at the beginning of a pathologic process or cancerous growth:

  • Reddish patches (erythroplasia) or whitish patches (leukoplakia) in the mouth.
  • A sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily.
  • A lump or thickening on the skin lining the inside of the mouth.
  • Chronic sore throat or hoarseness. Difficulty in chewing or swallowing.

These changes can be detected on the lips, cheeks, palate, and gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, face and/or neck. Pain does not always occur with pathology, and curiously, is not often associated with oral cancer. However, any patient with facial and/or oral pain without an obvious cause or reason may also be at risk for oral cancer.

We would recommend performing an oral cancer self-examination monthly and remember that your mouth is one of your body’s most important warning systems. Do not ignore suspicious lumps or sores. Please contact us so we may help.

Dr. Marc extracted my daughters wisdom teeth and was wonderful throughout the whole process. The front desk staff was kind, very well spoken, and very informative of the financial side of everything. The assistants in the back explained the whole process in depth to me and my daughter and went above and beyond to ease our minds. Dr. Marc was very professional and down to earth and ultimately did a wonderful job. I loved that the office called to check on my daughter later in the day.

Thank you to the staff and Dr. Gayed for easing my fears of having a wisdom tooth pulled. You took the time to talk with me and tell me all about the procedure. Dr. Gayed and his staff were very calming and understanding of my fears. I did not feel the needle to numb the area . . . not one bit! As Dr. Gayed began to remove my wisdom tooth, he and his staff talked about general topics which brought a calmness over me. He said "you'll feel a little pressure", which I did not. Dr. Gayed was also humming a song, which also brought a calmness over me! He then said, "you may hear some cracking", which I did not. Next thing I knew, my tooth was out! Absolutely no pain, no pressure and no cracking! I can't thank Dr. Gayed and his staff enough for their professional manner and patience with me! I highly recommend!!

I am so grateful for this team. I was in a very scary situation to me. Dr Fiorita preformed surgery on me. Amazingly, I had no scaring on my face when he was done. A little swelling and discomfort (very minimal). Dr Fiorita has a very calming bedside manner to be praised for. He talked me through everything. I knew what to expect during and after surgery. I will be forever grateful to Dr Fiorita. Thank you for helping me with this intense situation. Donna Nye

Dr. Fioriti is the gentlest oral surgeon I've ever been to. He knew what he was doing and did the procedure with expertise and explanation the whole way through. I was nervous and scared from a previous bad experience with a dentist; however, Dr. Fioriti was able to calm me down by explaining what he was doing and his staff reassuring me. It was the easiest dental surgery I've ever had. I will definitely recommend him to my family, my friends, and anyone I hear that needs an oral surgeon! I will be coming back for further treatments.

This office was probably the most pleasant experience I have ever had in any business setting--medical and non-medical. Every person I came in contact with was very pleasant and helpful. From check-in to the doctor himself, this office offers great care.
