Before Anesthesia

  • NO FOOD or DRINK (including water unless needed to take medication) for 8 hours before the scheduled surgery.
  • Take all medications unless otherwise directed with a sip of water. 
  • Wear short sleeved and loose fitting clothing. 
  • Patient must be accompanied by responsible adult who will drive patient home. Your driver MUST remain in the reception area the entire time. 
  • All minors MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. 
  • Be prepared at home by having soft cold food:  ice cream, yogurt, pudding, etc. 
  • Do not wear fingernail polish or any type of jewelry.  If you wear nose ring, tongue, or lip jewelry you will be asked to remove it. 
  • Avoid wearing your hair in a bun.  You will be asked to take it down for the surgery due to head position in the head rest. 
  • You are allowed to brush your teeth prior to surgery. 
  • No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
  • The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
  • IF YOU HAVE AN ILLNESS SUCH AS A COLD, SORE THROAT, STOMACH OR BOWEL UPSET, PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE.
